Hello SS friends,

Today, Saturday 02 February2002 was another one of those eye-opening, spirit-healing, and soul-enriching days for some SS members.

We met thanks to Sherif Tamim's enthusiasm at Mari Girgis underground station at 9:00 in the morning. All excited, holding our maps trying to figure out a way to plan our upcomig trip to the heart of the Old Cairo. Eventually were very much swept through the narrow alleys without a single glimpse at those maps, ending up surprisengly at the same mero station after some special four and half hours diving through a fraction of Cairo's history.

We started with a group photo at the entrance of "Al Kanisa Al Mo3alaka", were then transported to the "St. George's Church" (Kaniset Mari Girgis),  the "Abi Serga Church" and the Chruch of St. Barbara, that contains a cave where the Holy Family had seeked refuge many many decades ago..

By that time me and some others were starving..and Tamim was kind of teasing us about the delicious Feteer Meshaltet he had had for breakfast, so that was it.... we had and I mean we really had to go and get some fresh foul and tamia sandwiches before we went on..kona khalas bensawsaw:)

On our way to the Coptic Musieum we had to have a look at some beautiful greek-orthodox cemteray, where we found the grave of Sidnawy..the old time business tycoon.

Then we went to "Amr Ibn El As Mosque" to find it under constuction we went in we has some cool pictures taken...but guys I really think we should go there once more once they have done some work.

Well, in the end having walked for 4 hours we were tired but had a smile and a relaxed glow on our faces.

We said we definlty should do the rest of Cairo..It's a journey that never ends..

I hope we can get you some picutres to see soon so that you can have a taste of that wonderful sunny morning we spent in the oldest part of Cairo.

Cheers,

Noha El Shoky
