Below is a small passage I had written. I hope it "expresses" a view in as =
few words as possible....

=20
It was a usual workday, or so it always seems. I had gone off to the office=
, neither on time nor late, placed my bag and sunglasses on the side table,=
and turned the shades to let the sunlight in. Habitually, and most probabl=
y unconscientiously, I must have switched on my computer and gone through m=
y e-mail to find nothing extraordinarily interesting. Sipping through my ho=
t cup of mint, and flipping the papers of work to be reviewed and documents=
to be delivered, I suddenly got a strange feeling. I know this feeling. Th=
e sense that someone is staring at me so attentively=85.

There was no-one in my office but myself, and I felt the gaze coming from t=
he window behind me. Although this never happened before, I could be right,=
because there is an apartment building right across from our office buildi=
ng three or four meters away. I turned and there he was! >From on top of th=
e windowsill, he looked straight at me, inquisitively and with wonder. The =
question was very clear, =93why do you have yourself caged in that small sp=
ace for hour upon hour?=94, although it came from a dark gray pigeon which =
I identified as =93he=94=85..=20

I looked straight back at him, but failed to find an answer within myself.=
I lowered my head and though his wonder still wouldn=92t go away, he took =
off and left me to ask it of myself incessantly=85=85

Salam,

Sahar

Hi every-1,
First, to those who don't know me, my name is Ahmed Hassaballah (a
rather long name, so U can call me Hassabo). I'm an Egyptian
architect, 1994 graduate of Cairo University, MA in Islamic art and
Architecture, AUC, 2001. I have a lot of interests fortunately (or
unfortunately... I hardly have time to concentrate on any of them).
These include architecture, art/architecture history,
religion/philosophy, photography, in addition to others like safaris
and trips. Well, I have to mention here that I'm only interested in
there things, that doesn't mean I'm an expert, or well informed on
them, but I'd like to know more... Sorry for the long intro.
About art... well it's too hard to give a difinition to such a wide
subject as ART, so here are some thoughts. From the artist side, art
may represent a wide variety of things: feelings (general or
specific), dreams, expectations, imaginations, documentation of
existing things or a mix of some/all of them. In fact I might add
that sometimes it has no obvious connection to any of them, it's
something that just happened to be this way. From the recipient side,
we have another wide variety factors: all previous experiences and
conceptions the recipient, his feelings/mood at that moment of time,
his needs, the things he would want to see/hear/experience,
information he has about the suject... the list can go on for long.
All these factors affect how each one percieve and appreciate art. In
brief, we can say that ART is LIFE, with all its varieties,
contradictions, mysteries... etc.
There are the thoughs that came to my head... what do U think?

About art/cultural events in town, I think the listing of Al-Ahram
weekly is very good. The site is :

http://www.ahram.org.eg/weekly

then from navigation go to "timeout"...

Hassabo

Hello Everyone,

My name's Nancy and I'm new to the group and to SaharaSafari.

I agree with Amani and Toudy that to feel art you don't really need
to be educated but still true what Camel said that education does
accumulate. But if you don't have the initiative feel or taste of art
from the beginning then education would be...mm I don't want to say
useless...but not as effective or appreciated as with one that
initialy had the incentive to learn more on appretiation.

I don't think education on art or appreciation is ever a waste
because no matter how "unartistic" some people claim themselves to be
we are all artistic....just in differnt things with varying levels.

I think even if one comes across a piece of art "by mistake" it will
someway open up one's eyes to something one never had in mind...and
maybe never thought of in ourselves or in life....

I really like impressionism!

take care
N
