"After about half an hour of driving on-road then another half off-road from St Catherine's city, all worries all concerns all wants seemed distant. Now I am parking the car in elTarfa oasis where the Bedouin Taxi Jeep was waiting to get me offroading across the mountains to reach this isolated Bedouin resort with my friends. No sea nor beaches. Just the Sinai wild footpaths zigzagging between the mountains with their wild beauty to lose ourselves into with the guides from the tribe of the Bedouin manager Jameel Atteya. The Egyptian mountains seemed unreal. This is all new to me."

That's what a friend once wrote me about his experience when he first went there. AlKarm is the name of the Mountain Ecolodge in Sinai and is managed and owned by Jebaleya tribesman Jameel Atteya

How to drive onroad in Egypt for 4x4 Caravans

Submitted by Mabrouk on Sun, 2010/11/21 - 3:10pm

Driving for any trip in Egypt has to go through the hassle of Egyptian roads. From our records, it seems that most of our Safaris have higher risks driving on-road than off-road. This article is intended for those who are driving their 4x4s in a caravan/train/convoy of any sort on roads but will be very useful for any others as well.

Parking on Edges of Highways

It's not safe to park on the right side of road outside lates because some of the fastest cars sometimes choose this lane to pass others in desperate situations.

How to prepare your car to desert 4x4ing

Submitted by Mabrouk on Sun, 2010/10/31 - 7:34pm

There are many ways to prepare a 4x4 for action in desert. In many ways, most stock 4x4s are ready for most actions but not for all. Some agents specialize in Egypt to fit 4x4s for such actions.

Outfitting your 4x4 with equipment has to be for a purpose so please read well why and how to prepare each for your 4x4.

It's important to mention here that 'Recovery' is the art of bringing a sand-stuck car back to traction and to be able to move itself using its own engine.

Even if you're not a big fan of food, planning of meals and quantities of food and water and beverages, and how to carry them remains an essential skill which can make your trip much fun, or put you and your friends at the risk of food severe shortage that may indeed cause you to cancel trip.
