Dear Sherif Ali and Samir,

Let me start by saluting you both for your dynamically progressive mind!

Usually, statements like mine elicit an impassioned response among Middle-Eastern men, challenge the patriarchal spirit, and more than often generate aggressive remarks. Yours were so positive and reassuring!

The ?Hag metwaly? series may be just ?entertainment? but it certainly gives the impression that every female in Egypt is only looking for a husband that will provide useless materialistic artefacts. And if that is not aggrevating enough, it is almost an initiation for the female audience to return to the ?harem? lives.

Is that what has become of our gender in Egypt today? My skin cringes at the thought. I feel sorry for young men that are starting their lives and that have to compete with the rich and famous in order to be able to marry the one they love and start a family!

Men out there in this situation: I feel for you!

To be able to make it as an Egyptian/Arab woman in the world takes courage, drive and commitment. Achieving independence and reaching a state of mind that takes no nonsense from complex societies, is certainly a struggle.

BUT sustained by men like you Sherif, and Samir, the women of the Middle East will get through the growing strains and contradictions of our societies that are becoming insupportable in this day and age!

I salute you again, and thank you deeply!

And to all of you I wish you a wonderful clutter-free week-end!

Mona
